Tim McDougall

General Manager, Refinery Decarbonisation and Energy, Rio Tinto Aluminium

Tim McDougall is the General Manager, Refinery Decarbonisation and Energy, Rio Tinto Aluminium. He has accountability for the decarbonisation strategy and delivery for Rio Tinto’s three alumina refineries, located in Gladstone Queensland, and in Quebec, Canada, to meet Rio Tinto’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction targets. The scope includes projects spanning hydrogen applications, biogenic solutions, electrification and storage for steam production and energy efficiency. In addition, Tim has accountability for energy procurement to support the Group’s Australian east-coast aluminium assets. A mechanical engineer, Tim has worked for Rio Tinto in the resources sector for over 20 years in various leadership roles across Iron Ore and Coal commodity classes, with his most recent prior role being the General Manager Dampier Port and Marine, based in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
