Barry Sterland is a KPMG Partner and is the Australian lead and Global co-lead for KPMG’s Climate Policy Advisory practice. In this role he works with corporate and government clients on climate policy design and implementation, and responses to this. Prior to joining KPMG in 2021, Barry worked in the Australian Government at senior levels in several departments, including leading work designing the proposed carbon price scheme from 2007-2010 and on several energy technology initiatives. From the Treasury he also led the Finance work stream in Australia’s G20 Presidency in 2014, including extensive interaction with MoF and BoJ officials in Japan. He was also an Executive Director on the Board of the International Monetary Fund 2014-2016. More recently, he worked in AGL, one of Australia’s largest energy companies, leading their climate and energy policy contribution.
