60th Annual Joint Business Conference – Joint Statement

60th Annual Joint Business Conference – Joint Statement

The Melbourne Declaration is signed

We were delighted to conclude the 60th Joint Business Conference – the largest yet held with around 700 participants – with the signing of a forward-looking Joint Statement

This was an affirmation that the Australia-Japan business partnership is stronger than ever. The statement highlighted the key themes that had pervaded discussions – the ongoing need for active bilateral dialogue across business, industry and government to ensure the business relationship continues to flourish and grow; strong support for the efforts of the governments of Australia and Japan to preserve the free, open and rules-based nature of our regional order; the crucial importance of business and government in both Australia and Japan working together to secure a pathway to carbon neutrality that protects the interests of both our countries; the need to continue to work together to ensure the security and resilience of our supply chains; the vital role of increased collaboration on innovation and technology in addressing our key national challenges; and the need to build diverse, inclusive workforces capable of operating effectively as we enter a more people-intensive phase of the bilateral relationship.

We look forward to the 61st Annual Joint Business Conference to be held in Aichi prefecture in Japan from 23- 25 October 2024.
