Forum | Japan-Australia Liveable & Well-being City Forum

This event has concluded.

The AJBCC is proud to be a supporter of the Japan-Australia Liveable & Well-being City Forum, to be held via Live Stream from Melbourne on Monday 30 January, 9:30am – 3:00pm (AEDT) / 7:30 – 13:00 (JST).

The Forum is brought to you by NIKKEI, Asia’s largest economic media group, in cooperation with Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and the Smart City Institute Japan (SCI-Japan).

Recent years have seen the Australia-Japan relationship broaden, with engagement in strategic partnerships such as the Quad, the centrality of the bilateral relationship around natural resources, and growing collaboration on technology and innovation. Taking the opportunity of the 45th anniversary this year of the sister relationship between Melbourne and the City of Osaka (the host city of EXPO 2025 Osaka Kansai), the Forum aims to establish a new partnership between the two nations toward sustainable smart cities and a zero-emissions society.

The event program comprises a session focusing on improving “Liveability “and “Well-being” as a city management goal and a business roundtable discussing urban decarbonisation with open innovation toward a sustainable and zero-emissions society through Japan-Australia collaboration.

The Forum’s focal points are:

  1. How to achieve a people-centric sustainable smart city with the KPIs of liveability and regional well-being.
  2. To promote “City-to-City” collaboration solving common social issues such as empowering the depopulated and aged regions in rural areas between Australia and Japan for a zero emission society with a new smart city approach.
