The AJBCC held a special Zoom webinar on Tuesday 7 September featuring prominent Japanese business strategist and leader, Kathy Matsui in conversation with AJBCC Executive Committee member and AMP Ltd Chair, Debra Hazelton.

The ‘fire-side’ conversation ranged across the gamut of the burgeoning Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda, including Kathy’s recently launched ESG Venture fund.

The webinar included an opportunity for our audience to engage in Q&A with Kathy and Debra.

Kathy Matsui – General Partner, MPower Partners

Kathy is the former Vice Chair of Goldman Sachs Japan and Chief Japan Equity Strategist. Her groundbreaking ʻWomenomicsʼ research spurred the Japanese government to promote gender diversity, and she has advised corporations on governance and diversity best practices. She has an MA from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and an AB from Harvard.



Debra Hazelton – Chair, AMP Ltd

Debra is the Chair of AMP Ltd and a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Persol Asia Pacific (Singapore), Treasury Corporation of Victoria, the Australia-Japan Foundation and an Executive Member of the Australia-Japan Business Corporation Committee (AJBCC). Her executive career in corporate banking had a particular focus on Australia and Japan. Debra was the first Non-Japanese senior executive in a Head Office global role for a Japanese mega-bank (Mizuho Financial Group), the first Non-Japanese to be CEO of a Japanese bank in Australia (Mizuho Bank) and the first Australian woman to be CEO of a Australian bank in Japan (CBA). She has graduate and post-graduate degrees in Finance, Philosophy and Japanese and studied at U Syd, UNSW and Keio University.
