On 13 March 2026, the Clean Energy Transition Advisory Committee of the AJBCC hosted an Australia – Japan Renewable Fuels panel session.
Energy is central to the Australia-Japan relationship. For decades, Australia’s abundant energy resources have underpinned Japan’s energy security – and Japanese investment and demand have underwritten the development of our great export industries. Now, reflecting our shared commitment to decarbonise our economies, renewable fuels, including bio methane and sustainable aviation fuel, add a new dimension to our joint efforts – and an exciting opportunity to continue building our partnership.
Our panel of Matt Walden, Alex Pappas, Dr Brad Bailey, Liam Hedge and Tsuguhito Takenaka, expertly moderated by Peter Knight, took an engaged audience through the various aspects of this emerging sector’s relevance to the bilateral energy and business relationship, and the steps being taken at state and federal level to facilitate its growth and increase transparency through science-based certification and guarantee of origin schemes. A space that’s well worth continuing to watch.
Our thanks to Deloitte through Andrea Culligan and her team for their warm hospitality and Peter Knight for the initiative.
