Who can Join?

Membership is open to organisations or, in exceptional cases (usually by invitation), to individuals.

Each member organisation nominates one representative to participate in AJBCC meetings, including the Annual Conference, and vote on behalf of the organisation.

Organisations wishing to apply for membership need to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Member organisations need to be incorporated, registered or based in Australia, or have operations and activities or key personnel based in or connected to Australia.
  • Member organisations must have a commercial, economic or business interest in the relationship between Australia and Japan (which may also include the education, government and not-for-profit sectors).
  • Member organisations must have the skills, commitment, experience and ability meaningfully to support and contribute to the purposes of the AJBCC.

Membership Code of Conduct

The AJBCC Board recently decided that all members (new and returning) should, as part of our ongoing commitment to improved governance, be required to acknowledge the following statement as a condition of membership.  (You can review the AJBCC’s constitution here.)  Please confirm acceptance of the following statement when submitting your membership application materials, as your acceptance forms part of your application.

As a registered member of the AJBCC, you and your representatives agree to comply at all times to standards of conduct that constitute professional behaviour and are appropriate for membership of a formal bilateral business association such as ours.

By applying for membership you agree that you have and will continue to maintain a good record of corporate citizenship and will ensure compliance with all applicable laws.

You also agree that the AJBCC may, in its absolute discretion, terminate your membership at any time, in accordance with the processes set out in article 5.2 of the AJBCC’s Constitution, if it considers that you or representatives of the company have engaged in conduct that contravenes such requirements or adversely impacts the AJBCC (including its staff, members or associated organisation), its operations or its reputation.
