ITOCHU is one of the leading sogo shosha (general trading companies). We have 3 offices in Australia (Sydney, Brisbane and Perth) and have expanded our operations in Australia such as Mining (Iron Ore and Coal), Forestry & General Merchandise, Food, Machinery and Chemical Business since 1957.
Iron Ore: Mt Newman, Yandi, Mt Goldsworthy JV, and Jimblebar with BHP. Leading exporter of iron ore to Japan and the rest of the world.
Coal: Oaky Creek JV with Glencore, Maules Creek JV with Whitehaven Coal and Fitzroy project with AMCI. One of the major exporters of steaming & coking coal to Japan and the rest of the world.
Food: Leading trader of grain and grain products, dairy products, beef and marine products in Asia Pacific.
Machinery: Development and Investment in PPP and other types of infrastructure projects. Focusing on water, waste, power and transportation and decarbonization sectors.
Key Milestones
- 1957 – ITOCHU Australia started its operations (mainly wool imports).
- 1967 – Mt. Newman JV in West Australia started with BHP.
- 2004 – IMEA (ITOCHU Minerals & Energy of Australia Pty Ltd) established.
- 2009 – Invested in Aquasure PPP project (desalination in Victoria).
