An overwhelming majority of Australians (79%) see our nation’s relationship with Japan as important to Australia’s future according to newly released research by SEC Newgate.
The State of Trade: Japan, a survey of 1,200 Australians in September 2025, was commissioned to provide a snapshot of the state of the Australia-Japan relationship.
The Key findings were:
- 79% of Australians see Australia’s relationship with Japan as important to Australia’s future.
- 56% of Australians felt positive about Japanese companies investing in Australia.
- 48% said they felt positive because Japanese investment was in Australia’s national interest and 43% nominated new technologies and innovation as reasons to be positive about Japanese investment.
The levels of trust are very high. The survey found 79% of Australians understand how important Japan is to Australia’s future. That is an extraordinarily high level of understanding and support and shows our bi-lateral relationship extends beyond Government and business to the Australian people.
