Online session: Consultation on Critical Minerals and Hydrogen Production Tax Incentives

On 8 July 2024, AJBCC’s Clean Energy Transition Advisory Committee led an engaging session, convened at short notice due to the tightness of the consultation timeframe, in conjunction with Kat Aleksoska from the Australian Hydrogen Council and Namali Mackay from the Critical Minerals Association of Australia to collect member input on Australia-Japan aspects of the Government’s proposed new tax incentives for Hydrogen and Critical Minerals.

Events like these in partnership with industry organisations provide a valuable way for us to tap into the expertise and access on specific issues such organisations provide, and ensure the voice of business is heard in government policy-making In areas where the Australia-Japan relationship is crucial to national interests.

The session highlighted the complexity of the industry issues, and the need for incentive schemes to be developed in ways that allow them to be sensitive to specific sectoral concerns if they are to be successful in promoting desired outcomes and avoiding unintended consequences.
