Discussion on Australia-Japan Implications of the Future Gas Strategy

Discussion on Australia-Japan Implications of the Future Gas Strategy

On 25 September 2024, close to 100 people gathered at simulcast AJBCC events in Sydney and Perth and online to receive an update on the Australian Government’s Future Gas Strategy, announced on May 9, 2024 and discuss its implications for the huge ongoing trade between Australia and Japan in LNG and how gas supports the efforts of both countries to reach their ambitious emissions reduction targets.

Our expert panel, featuring DISR Acting Deputy Secretary Robert Jeremenko, the senior Government official responsible for the Future Gas Strategy; Samantha McCulloch, CEO of Australian Energy Producers, and Bill Townsend, Senior VP Corporate at INPEX, engaged in a compelling discussion moderated by Tim Lester, Chair of the AJBCC’s Clean Energy Transition (CET) Advisory Committee.

Key topics included:

  • How the strategy supports the decarbonisation of the Australian economy
  • The ongoing role of LNG in the clean energy transition of both nations
  • Safeguarding energy security and affordability and enhancing Australia’s global trade and investment appeal

A huge thank you to our panelists, participants, and everyone who joined us in Sydney, Perth, and online! The exchange of ideas and insights was truly invaluable, highlighting the vital role the Australia-Japan corridor plays in the global energy transition.

Special thanks to Gilbert + Tobin for hosting this event in their spectacular venues in both Sydney and Perth.
