Trade and Investment Minister Tehan meets AJBCC Board and guests

On 22 February we were privileged to have the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Hon Dan Tehan MP, join a group of AJBCC Board members and invited guests, including senior members of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Melbourne, for a boardroom discussion over lunch.

Minister Tehan expressed great optimism about the Australia-Japan relationship, which he described as “in the best shape it has ever been; and there is no handbrake on it getting even bigger and better in the future”; and emphasised his personal commitment to the relationship. He stressed the importance for successful business links of in-person engagement, saying he looked forward to further reopening of the Japanese national border as pandemic-related restrictions ease, and to the holding of the 2022 Joint Business Conference as an in-person event in Tokyo.

The gathering also discussed Australia’s plans for the Osaka Expo in 2025 and explored possibilities for expanding Australia-Japan relations on science, technology and innovation.  The meeting was one of a number we are organising with senior political figures to ensure high visibility of Japan’s importance to Australia during this election year.

We thank AJBCC member Herbert Smith Freehills for hosting the event.
